If you’ve kept up with this blog, you will know that i’ve stated a few reasons on why I think hip hop is declining. But, I think there is an underlying reason behind all of the previously mentioned reasons. And that reason is very simple. WE DON’T OWN OUR OWN CULTURE. And by “we” I think most of you know what I mean.
How can you say that you’re going to “bring hip-hop back” when we have absolutely no control over our hip hop Culture? The truth is we no longer run hip hop. White Executives who don’t know anything about hip hop and don’t give a fuck about the culture are the people who call the shots in the rap industry. When you don’t have control over an industry, you cannot control what comes out of it, and white executives don’t care about what good hip hop sounds like, they care about what makes money. They only finance bullshit ringtone music because the young, dumb-minded youth suck it up. They would give Betty White a deal singing nursery rhymes if they thought it would make money. It’s all about money for them and nothing about music.
Don’t believe it? Look at the Coonery & Buffoonery that you see on WorldStar Hip Hop and Youtube Daily. Look at people who own BET now (white people). Look at countless crappy videos that Soulja Boy has been putting out every other day (Absolute Garbage). The beat wasn’t even mixed at all & he was mumbling some bullshit gibberish throughout the entire song. It was so horrible that I had to sit through the entire video to fully grasp the wackness of it all.
Why are we letting shit like this slide? Not only do we not own our own culture, but we don’t fully support it either. The fanbase of Hip Hop is predominately suburban white kids who spend their parents money to buy albums. Meanwhile, the average black hip hop fan is getting his copy from the internet or from the guy that sells bootlegs down the street. So as a result most rappers have sold out and started catering to the suburban white kid. Can you blame them? they have bills to pay right? This is why alot of the old school artists we all love are now coming out with new albums that are full of commercial bullshit gimmick songs that don’t even fit their style.
So, with that being said. The solution to bring hip hop back is simple… take control of it first. Everything else will follow.
